you can’t take the sky from me
list of movies i am excited to see this year:
- serenity
- … nothing?
of course, most of my friends have already seen the film thanks to wilson’s backroom dealings (and obsessive nature!), but hopefully i’ll have a whole round of new converts to take with me when it comes out next month.
if you haven’t yet seen firefly, i highly, highly recommend it. i’m late to the game on this one by a few years; i vaguely recall it first coming out and being unimpressed. i immediately forgot about it, and only thirteen episodes (three of which were never aired) it was cancelled.
turns out, i was wrong. science fiction western though it may be, it’s really a cleverly-done character story. joss whedon may not have done everything right by me, but with firefly he hit the nail square on the head. it’s got a perfect balance of action, wit, intrigue, and character development. for a fox television series it has a remarkable depth; for example the episode jaynestown explores the idea of ’symbols’ from multiple perspectives while still remaining one of the most fun episodes of the series.

So since they made me watch the first disc of Firefly after the BBBQ, I went out and bought my own copy of the series.
Then I made my older sister watch the first disc. She bought her own copy last weekend.
I am going home this weekend and will make my younger sister watch the series.
And thus the cycle goes on. I am coming onto it even later in the game but I can still be rabid about how phenomenal it is.
