i am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar

don’t worry avid travel fans, more greece photos will be up this weekend. i just need to sit down with the journal and write up a few more blog entries that will get us further along in our narrative. i’ll also hopefully soon be posting links to both katharine and martin’s photosets.

first point of order: see serenity. after giving it some thought i am a firm believer that you should watch firefly first, so i reckon you’ve now got about eleven hours of homework before you can watch the movie. don’t worry if the first few episodes of firefly don’t grab you, it takes them a while to get really rolling. i’m excited-by-proxy for the ‘first-time experience’ of watching the next few episodes with philip henry, who seems to quite enjoy it.

aside from the excitement of firefly though, i’m a bit bummed. my favorite bicycle broke quite completely on monday, so thanks to joeball i’ve been learning a new skill – brakeless fixie riding. hopefully i’ll get the brakes hooked up today on my new fixed gear and stop fearing for my life every time i see a car, pedestrian, corner, or slight downhill. it’s an adrenaline rush though, that’s for sure. of course the excitement of riding dampened (literally!) by the rain that has descended upon seattle today.

it’s also creeping into winter, which with it’s shorter days is taking a toll on my ability to get out and about with cycling, bbqs, and ultimate frisbee. i’d been hoping to take up some of that slack with a german class but alas, alack i failed to complete the requisite paperwork before gallavanting off to the mediterranean. so instead i have to focus on my other tests: gre, driving.

i wonder if getting adjusted to driving a car (and a manual at that) in winter seattle will be harder or easier than learning to ride a fixed gear? my suspicion: harder.

at any rate, lastly i need to be less discomposed when i get surprise last-minute lunch rsvps, even though i’m doing the inviting and i know full well what i’m getting myself into. it’s like i become all sorts of useless – i’m not saying i have mad hells of game, but i like to think i can pull off “clever, funny guy” reliably. i hate saying things that just leave even my own internal monologue looking at me dumbfounded. i did get a green pig eraser out of it, so i guess it’s not all failure.
