and in the end, st. john says all things will be revealed

so, i’m broken again.

those of you who remember from earlier in the year my ill-luck with things that have daemonic names (666 slayer race, devil’s gulch) will be disheartened to know that it now seems to also extend to medical terminology as well.

i was just riding along last weekend over in south seattle, andre and i on our urban mtbs looking for various and sundry trails around beacon hill. we were about a mile from the house when i went to bunny hop a pop can sitting in the street. except i failed to clear it, and the can crimped itself neatly around my front tire. it then rode up and collapsed the fender into the front wheel, sending me over the handlebars and onto the pavement. ten minutes later it was obvious that i had done a good one on my elbow, and we limped home. when it was still swollen on monday morning, i went down to the uwmc and got x-rays – turns out i have a radial head fracture. it’s a pretty annoying little break, but the only real treatment is to keep it in a sling for a couple weeks while it heals up. even after a week my arm feels much better, and i’ve regained much of the mobility, though i am using it only very gingerly as per doctor’s orders. i am typing two-handed again though (shh), and i did go out for a couple rides on the gimpcycle revision b.

regardless, between that and thanksgiving i ended up with a full week off of work which was relaxing. my mother doted on me and i ate my own weight in pie and fudge over the holiday. plus there was the drunkest night of the year, black (out) friday 2k6. after playing the nintendo revolution for a few hours we jaunted over to the horse brass for a seven hour drinking fest. it was fantastic. we then went back to jace’s for more revolutioning and some greasy pizza at 4am. i’m thankful for all of my friends, they are awesome and i don’t nearly see them enough. i’m also thankful for my new laptop, which i picked up while i was down as well.

and now, dear readers, it’s snowing like craziness here in seattle. it particularly makes me wish i was well because a good ride in the snow sounds like so much fun right now, even despite my new toy.

i think my next bike build is going to be a surly pugsley. if wide tires are fun, wider tires must be better, right?

it’s nice, the battery life is substantially shorter than the ibook however, like 2.5 hours rather than 3.5 in normal use conditions. other than that i’ve been playing a ton of toee in the windows boot and enjoying the crazy peformance of os x with a fast processor and more than ample ram.
